More about this course

In this class, I will show you how to paint a hummingbird in watercolor. This hummingbird is uniquely painted using 'negative painting' techniques. This is a technique where you create shapes by painting around the subject. This class will also cover how to paint use negative painting to paint leaves.

The course project

Using my completed painting or the attached photo below as a reference, lightly sketch in the outline of the hummingbird and some loose background shapes such as leaves, branches and flowers. If you're feeling adventurous, make it your own, by changing the colours of the hummingbird and background!

Using the tips and techniques shown in the tutorial, create your own painting of a hummingbird.

Share your creations here! If you have any questions, let me know in the discussion and I will get back to you.
